Makoto Fujisaki
MS, MPhilEd, LMHCA
As a counselor in private practice, I am committed to providing a safe and compassionate space for clients of all backgrounds including adolescents seeking support on their journey towards healing and personal growth.
Originally from Japan, I came to the US as a high school student and have spent most of my life living abroad, away from home. My diverse background and experiences have given me a unique perspective and a deep appreciation for cultural diversity. As a former international student, I understand firsthand the challenges and opportunities that come with navigating a new culture and educational system. As a small business owner and international educator, I have also experienced struggles from different sides, which has shaped my approach to counseling and helps me to provide effective and compassionate support to adolescents and adults from all walks of life, including Japanese clients who may prefer sessions in Japanese.
Approach
My approach to counseling is grounded in empathy, collaboration, and non-judgment. I use an integrative approach, drawing on theories and perspectives from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), client-centered therapy, and strength-based therapy. I prioritize creating an authentic and supportive environment that values your opinions and feelings, where you feel heard, understood, and free from judgment. While I may challenge and engage you, I believe our work is a collaborative effort. Together, we will uncover your inner resources and empower you to navigate life's challenges with greater resilience and confidence.
